Peconic Dunes camp

My son attended Peconic Dunes Camp, and unfortunately our experience was not positive. The most concerning issue was the handling of his prescription medication. Although the Health Director is responsible for holding and administering all medications, a dose was missed, and my 11‑year‑old was told it was his responsibility to remember to take it. When he expressed that he might forget, a counselor responded, “I don’t care.” His medication cannot be skipped, and this lapse created a genuine health risk. There were also inconsistencies with camp policies. The website does not list any restrictions on camper‑provided snacks for the overnight program, yet my son’s snacks were removed, including items clearly labeled peanut‑free. He was also reprimanded for normal, age‑appropriate behavior (flatulence at bedtime), and this was used as justification to take away snacks he brought from home.Additionally, the packing list included an electric or battery‑operated fan, but when my son brought one, he was told he could not use it despite having an outlet near his bed. This added to the confusion and lack of clarity around expectations.Overall, the combination of missed medication, inconsistent enforcement of rules, and dismissive interactions left me feeling that the camp did not provide the safe, supportive environment we expected. I hope the administration reviews these concerns seriously so future campers have a better experience.

My Daughter is Obsessed!

My daughter is currently in her 3rd summer at Peconic Dunes. It’s located on the North Fork of Long Island on the sound. She absolutely loves going and has made many friends. She enjoys water activities like CORCLing, swimming, kayaking, and fishing. They offer a weekly overnight camp that runs Sunday through Saturday which allows campers to attend as few or as many weeks as they’d like. For an overnight camp, it is also very reasonably priced. They do a weekly talent show, a dance with a different theme every week, carnival games, sports, and arts and crafts. She loves to go the first week to celebrate the 4th. The food must be decent because she is a picky eater and doesn’t complain! Cabins are very basic and rustic with bunks. Peconic Dunes is a great camp especially for those who aren’t ready to spend an entire summer away from home.
